Rajgir (Bihar) Region (200 BC), Post-Mauryan, Cast Copper Unit, Uninscribed, Obv: two figures in an ornamental border, a goddess seated on a stool in profile, one hand akimbo and carrying an attribute in the other, at right and a devotee-like human figure in profile genuflecting to her at left, Rev: uniface, 1.70g, 14.35x11.30mm, (Unlisted in Mitchiner), choice very fine, Very Rare.

Note: The depiction of the goddess being venerated is plausibly the earliest of a kind that shows worship and devotion in a visual sense. The 'profile portrayal of the goddess is unusual and rare although parallels have been noted in the ‘Saurashtra’ series of archaic punch-marked coins.

Ancient Rajgir (Rajagriha) was the first imperial capital of the Magadha Janapada Pataliputra (Patna). It is located in modern-day Bihar. Early Post-Mauryan coins of Rajgir are rare, and only a few have been found around the ancient ruins of the town. This type is unrecorded.
