Note: The Mughal Empire, founded in 1526 AD, initially focused less on the southern regions of India. In 1621, the Sultan of Bijapur agreed to pay tribute to Jahangir, but later defaulted, leading to Shahjahan's invasion of Bijapur in 1636 AD. The resulting treaty stipulated an annual tribute to the Mughal Empire.

Bijapur, a formidable sultanate in the Deccan, resisted Mughal conquests despite initial victories by Aurangzeb. Even after these conflicts, challenges persisted from local rulers like Ali II Adil Shah, Nayakas, and Marathas. Resistance continued even after Ali's death and his daughter's marriage to Aurangzeb's son, Azam.

Aurangzeb's campaigns to subdue Bijapur lasted from March 1685 to September 1686, resulting in the surrender of Bijapur Fort. This marked the end of the Adil Shahi dynasty, with Aurangzeb proclaiming control over the capital and issuing imperial decrees for submission.

By November 1686, the Mughal Empire had captured several forts and integrated the former Adil Shahi territories into the Deccan Subahs. These included Bijapur, Bidar, and Aurangabad, extending Mughal authority southwards to Trichinopoly.

The Ex-Adil Shahi territory was divided into three Subahs: Bijapur with 18 Sarkars, Bidar with 6 Sarkars excluding Nanded, and Aurangabad with 12 Sarkars. Sira became the headquarters for Bijapur Carnatic Subah, with its mint producing coins known as Sirahi Fanams bearing legends like "Alamgir Badshah" and "zarb sira". Coins with "Carnatic (Karnatak)" mint names are believed to have been minted at Sira, reflecting its prominence within the Subah of Bijapur.
