Delhi Sultanate, Turk Dynasty, Shams ud-din Itutmish (AH 607-633 /1210-1235 AD), Budaun Mint,&nbsp;Silver Tanka, Month Jamad al-Akhira, In the name of Caliph al-Nasir, Obv:&nbsp;Arabic legend&nbsp;The Kalima Shahada,&nbsp;“al nasir lidinullah amir al muminin” within a circle, with Hijri year (obscured) and Arabic month Jamad al-Akhira, Rev: Arabic legend "al-sultan al-a'zam Shams ud dunya wa'l din Abu'l Muzaffar Iltutmish al-sultan with nasir amir al-mu'minin", 10.51g, 25.24mm, (Unlisted Type), no test mark, usual flatness, centrally struck in choice quality, XF-AU, Very&nbsp;Rare. &nbsp;

Note: The presence of the Arabic month Jamad al-Akhira in the marginal inscription is an unusual and significant feature, unrecorded in the Goron and Goenka catalogue. As noted by G&amp;G, the calligraphic style of this issue closely parallels that of confirmed Budaun Mint coins, strongly supporting its attribution to that mint. While it bears resemblance to G&amp;G # D31, this specimen represents a previously unrecorded variety. <o:p></o:p>Part of a recent series of numismatic discoveries from the reign of Iltutmish, this coin is offered for the first time in our auctions, providing a significant opportunity for advanced collectors of Delhi Sultanate coinage to acquire a newly recorded type.<o:p></o:p>
