Note: This coin represents a completely new discovery from the Lahore mint of Shams ud‑Din Iltutmish, hitherto unpublished and unrecorded. Following the death of Qutb ud‑Din Aibak, Iltutmish defeated his short-lived successor Aram Shah and shifted the capital from Lahore to Delhi, consolidating his rule and laying the foundation of a stable Sultanate.<o:p></o:p>Early in his reign, Iltutmish undertook military campaigns in the region, sending forces to capture Lahore, which led to the retreat of the rival governor Nasir ad‑Din Qabacha. He subsequently appointed his son, Nasiruddin Mahmud, as governor of the city. This coin was likely struck during that critical period, reflecting the assertion of Iltutmish’s authority over Lahore. The mint name ‘Lahore’ appears as ‘Lohore’ in Arabic script on this coin, reflecting an alternative contemporary pronunciation or orthographic variation used during Iltutmish’s era<o:p></o:p>&nbsp;A previously unlisted and unpublished specimen, this coin is offered for the first time in any public auction, representing a rare and historically significant opportunity for collectors of Delhi Sultanate coinage. On the basis of these events, the coin has been tentatively attributed to the Lahore mint, rendered as ‘Lohore’; however, further research is required. <o:p></o:p>
